Welcome Page

Welcome New Readers

by Matthew Strumpf

Welcome to Role Playing News. Thank you for checking out our web pages. Role Playing News is a monthly newsletter about role-playing games. It includes news about our upcoming events, views from our readers, reviews of other games, and most of all stories, both from games and from reader's imaginations.

Role Playing News tries to improve the quality of gaming. It focuses on characters and plots, instead of new weapons or how to hack and slash better. It is hoped that RPN may find new role-players who may have been discouraged by complicated systems or simplistic plots. We, the editors, believe that role-playing can be a challenging and exciting activity that everyone can enjoy.

There is no subscription fee for RPN. We work from contributions from our readers. We encourage donations of time, money, or ideas from all of our readers. Please, help us in any way that you can.

Once again, welcome to Role Playing News. We are truly happy that you could join us.

What you can find in Role Playing News

by Andi Woodring and Matthew Strumpf

You can find the world in RPN!!! Okay, maybe just our little corner of it. But truly, there is a lot of neat stuff here. We have articles ranging from opinions to news, and from reviews to stories.

Featured in every RPN are stories. Some are the stories of games that have been played and some are just good works of fiction. Subjects come from fantasy, the future, and some are just plain strange. However, stories are only the start. RPN also has several series. The two most frequent series are When Last We Left Our Heroes... and Evening Tales.

In When Last We Left Our Heroes... we follow the trials and tribulations of RPN's premier gaming group. This adventure takes place in a fantasy world. The group consists of an odd bunch of humans and others, who have been shifted in space, through a underground zoo, moved once more, and sent to clear out a haunted manor. Who knows what they will end up doing next. This game has also lead to another series, Evening Tales.

Evening Tales is an ongoing story about Ryork Dradei and Christopher Nole. Ryork is a Dark Elf of sorts and is one of the stronger leaders of the party. Christopher is a local child who has joined the group. Christopher's interest in the history of this group has lead him to talk to Ryork. These tales are their discussions.

RPN does more then just stories. We try to report on news that effects role-playing as well as provide the lasted schedules of events of this group. New players are always welcome, and newly started games will be announced here first.

Turn to the editorial or a commentary and read more about the opinions of this group. You may agree with them or you might not, but whatever your opinion, we encourage you to reply to us. We always like to hear from our readers.

All of this comes to you for your enjoyment. Role-playing can open an imagination and can take you to other worlds. Role Playing News is the result of these explorations.

What is Role-playing?

by Matthew Strumpf

Do you enjoy fantasy or science fiction books? Have you ever wished that you could become part of the book? If your answer to both these questions is yes, then role-playing is for you.

Role-playing is not about dice or gaming systems, but is about characters and plots. In a role-playing game, you take on a character, you decide what he or she or it does, and you deal with the results. It let's you be the main character in the book, and allows you to explore whatever worlds you can find.
